Metro beautiful companion is gone.
Early 7 July 2008 I had to make one of the most painful decisions a dog owner has to make. We dog lovers know that the time we share with our dogs is limited and in time we must part. For too short is their life, but we take them to our heart, giving to them, as they do for us, loving protection and devotion.
Metro was 15 years old, an exceptional age for his breed only possible with veterinarian care and unstinting love. Just last February Metro had a five pound tumor and his spleen removed, but he never complained or whined, and made a splendid recovery. What could not be repaid at his advanced age were the demands of time, and he increasingly weakened and lost his ability to take care of himself. If I were to keep him, he would be living a life of pain void of dignity and ease.
Metro's favorite thing was cereal-milk and he would wait for the sound of a spoon being laid on the table to come for his reward. He could be asleep in another room and he would hear that sound and come running. I gave him a extra large bowl of milk the morning I decided to take him for the long ride. It's heart wrenching to plan and take your loving dog to this fate.
Through the years I have taken pictures of my dogs, but those I took this day were to remember him as he was on this last day.
Goodbye, Metro my friend, until we once again share the joy of you flying spirit.
